Jen’s Beauty Jem - Choose The Right Red Lipstick Shade
In light of the article I wrote about of A$AP Rocky’s comments on The Covateur about dark skin women not being able to wear red lipstick and that’s something only fair skin women should do, I decided to post up a guideline I found from Glamour Magazine’s beauty experts to help you choose the right red lipstick color for you.
I love wearing red lipstick (can’t you tell? Lol) but it took me a really long time to get it right. Before I knew what color to wear, people who saw me would always say I looked weird with it on, or it made my lips look small or it just didn’t look right on me.
Later on I realized that it’s not a matter of not being able to wear the color but a matter of choosing the right shade. Let’s face it, you wear red lipstick to stand out, look edgy, fresh and trendy and not to look like you belong in a circus.
Now because I wear the right shade, I get complimented instead of criticized and you can too!
- For Fair Skin: Coral-y reds look most beautiful on you; they add a shot of color but aren’t overpowering. (Colors with a hint of orange in them look great too)
- For Medium Skin: Anything from true red to pinky-cranberry shades will work well with your golden undertones.
- For Dark Skin: Stick with deep, rich colors like burgundy or warm brick—superbright ones can seem too harsh.
There you have it ladies. So go paint the town red and rock your red lip with confidence!
